The ICNIRS is proud to announce that the Karl Norris Award 2025 will be presented to Prof. Dr. Ana Garrido-Varo (Spain), in recognition of her outstanding lifelong contributions to NIR spectroscopy in education, research, and technology transfer.
With a career spanning more than four decades at the Faculty of Agriculture & Forestry Engineering University of Córdoba, Ana has shaped the field of NIR spectroscopy through pioneering research, international collaboration, and the mentoring of generations of students and scientists across the globe.
From early work in the 1990s developing NIR services and applications for the agri-food industry, to her leadership in international projects and the creation of training programs in both Spanish and English, Ana has played a critical role in bringing NIRS to diverse audiences and practical applications.
She was instrumental in launching the International Virtual Platform for Teaching and Learning NIRS (IVPTL-NIRS), and her legacy continues through the many students, researchers, and industry professionals she has trained. Her contributions span education, technical innovation, standardization, and global outreach.
Ana mentored countless Agricultural Engineering students during her 43 years at the University of Córdoba. She served as supervisor of more than 45 BSc and MSc and 16 PhD. She published 126 SCI papers, five book chapters and 113 non indexed publications.
