John Shenk Travel Awards for NIR-2019

The International Council for Near Infrared Spectroscopy (ICNIRS) offers travel awards for student delegates to travel to the council's international conferences. They are intended as a supplement to the delegate's own resources for travel and are awarded in cases where there is a valid justification for financial support. Funding for the awards is made possible because of the donation of a significant portion of the profits from the previous ICNIRS conference and is dependent on the financial success of the previous conference.

We greatfully acknowledge that funding for the NIR-2019 conference in Gold Coast, Australia will be possible because of the donation of profits from the organizers of the NIR-2017 conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Applications will be considered from anyone who can demonstrate a valid case for financial support; however, full funding of travel, accommodation and conference registration is not provided. ICNIRS will look most favorably on student applicants who can obtain a substantial proportion of the necessary funds from their own sources and for whom a lack of the balance would prevent attendance.

To apply for an ICNIRS travel award for NIR-2019 please submit:

  • a resume
  • a BRIEF outline of current and past NIR research and/or development, and its impact on the applicant's work area
  • the abstract(s) submitted to NIR-2019
  • a detailed budget including total estimated costs of attending the conference, the amount(s) and source(s) of already secured or promised funding and the specific amount requested from ICNIRS and its purpose
  • names and contact information of TWO referees who may be contacted by ICNIRS to clarify any aspect of the application

Applications must be sent by e-mail and be received NO LATER THAN 20th March 2019. Late applications will not be considered.

Applications should be sent to:
